Vestal, NY - Justin Hoyle and Ross McFarland each earned victories, but Hofstra fell at Binghamton, 31-6, in an EIWA match Thursday afternoon at the West Gym. The loss snapped Hofstra's two-match win streak.
Hofstra moved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the EIWA with the loss. Binghamton, which is ranked No. 11 in the NWCA Mid-Major Poll, is 4-5 overall and 2-0 in the EIWA.
After Binghamton won the first two matches of the day, Hoyle put Hofstra on the scoreboard with a 4-2 win over Nate Lucier at 141 pounds. Hoyle did all of his scoring in the second period with an escape to start followed by a takedown to take a 4-0 edge and then held off a comeback attempt by the Bearcat'sred-shirt junior.Â
McFarland, who is ranked No. 29 by FloWrestling, scored an impressive 5-2 sudden victory win over Binghamton's Will Ebert, the reigning EIWA Wrestler of the Week who is ranked No. 24 by FloWrestling and No. 23 by InterMat. McFarland had a two-point reversal before Ebert tied the match late in the third period. But McFarland used a leg attack early in the extra period to score the takedown and earn the win.Â
Hofstra returns to action Friday at the Lehman Open at Franklin & Marshall. Â
