Jean Aranguren had an outstanding game with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists to lead the Hofstra men's basketball team, but the Pride dropped a narrow 67-61 decision to Charleston on Thursday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Michael Graham added 16 points and 13 rebounds in the contest for the Pride.
Hofstra fell to 9-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while Charleston moved to 13-3 and 3-0 in CAA action.
A driving layup from
Cruz Davis gave the Pride a seven-point advantage, 25-18, with 4:39 showing on the first half clock. The Pride would stay in front as the opening stanza winded down with Aranguren draining a three-pointer from the corner with three seconds left to tentatively provide Hofstra with another seven-point lead, but Charleston's Deywilk Tavarez nailed a half-court shot at the buzzer to make it a four-point game at the break.
The visitors opened the second half with 10 straight points as Brzovic scored four points during the run to put the Cougars ahead, 37-31, at the 18:08 mark. Hofstra immediately answered with five straight and a basket from
German Plotnikov closed the gap to 37-36 with 16:02 left.
Charleston would hold a 46-44 lead after a basket from
KiJan Robinson with 9:33 left before the Cougars scored seven straight to extend the lead to nine, 53-44, at the 6:18 mark. The Pride would get the deficit as close as three down the stretch but were unable to get over the hump as Charleston escaped with the victory.
Plotnikov added eight points and seven rebounds for Hofstra, which also got five points, five rebounds, and three assists from Davis.
Brzovic led Charleston with 23 points and 11 rebounds, with CJ Fulton chipping in with eight points, eight rebounds, and 12 assists for the Cougars.

- Today was the 21st all-time meeting between Hofstra and Charleston with the Cougars now leading the series, 11-10.
- It was the team-leading fourth double-double of the season for Aranguren and the second of the year for Graham.
- Hofstra outrebounded Charleston, 51-39, and had 16 offensive rebounds in the contest. The 16 offensive rebounds marked a season-high.
