Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Len Skoros

Statement Made; No 22 Hofstra Downs No. 14 Elon

Hempstead, NY - Lennon Gill scored both Hofstra goals as the No. 22 Pride collected a 2-1 Coastal Athletic Association victory over previously unbeaten and 14th-ranked Elon Saturday at Captains Field. The victory was Hofstra's second in a row.

Hofstra, the three-time defending CAA champions, moved to 8-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the CAA with the win. Elon slipped to 7-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in league action.

Gill opened the scoring at the 27:41 mark of the first half as he redirected a cross from Laurie Goddard past Elon keeper Tomas Wroblewski. It was Gill's third goal of the season and gave the Pride the lead at halftime for the sixth time this season.

Elon would tie the game just over seven minutes into the second half as Scott Vatne launched a shot from distance that was saved by Hofstra keeper Filippo Dadone. But the rebound got away from him and Petro Klitsch cleaned it up on the doorstep for his first goal of the season.

Less than 10 minutes later Gill struck again as Mylo Hall sent a ball in from the far sideline that the freshman forward was able to get a head on and send it in for what proved to be the game-winner. Roc Carles also earned an assist on the play.

Dadone made just two saves on the day as the Pride defense held the Phoenix to just seven shots. Wroblewski made six saves for Elon.

Hofstra returns to action on October 5 at Drexel. Kickoff in Philadelphia is set for 1 p.m.
