Carlos Martinez was named the Coastal Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week today following a standout performance in Hofstra's 4-3 win over Monmouth Friday, a victory that clinched a CAA Championship berth for the Pride.
Martinez held Monmouth to one run over six innings with six strikeouts. The right-hander from College Point, Nw York, retired the first 11 batters he faced and allowed just four hits to win his fourth straight decision and move to 5-1 with a 1.24 ERA in CAA play.
This is the second CAA Pitcher of the Week accolade for Martinez, who shared the award on May 6. Hofstra will be in action Wednesday at 4 p.m. against third-seeded Northeastern in the first round of the CAA Championship.
