Washington, DC – Playing in its second game in as many days, the Hofstra softball team suffered a 10-0 defeat in five innings to George Washington on Wednesday afternoon from Washington, DC. Hofstra is now 6-14 following its loss to the Revolutionaries, and George Washington improves to 15-12.
George Washington opened the game with a five-run first inning, putting the Pride in an early 5-0 hole. After a run in the third inning set the score at 6-0 George Washington, Hofstra loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning on a
Mackenzie Fitzgerald walk and back-to-back singles by
Chelsea Villar and
Kayla Wilson, but
Gianna Iaquinto went struck out swinging and
Lily Yepez grounded out to the pitcher to end the Hofstra scoring threat. The Revolutionaries scored another four runs to stretch its lead to 10 in the bottom half of the inning, and the Pride went down in order in the top of the fifth to end the game via run-rule.
Becca Vaillancourt tallied two of Hofstra's three hits on a double and a single, while Wilson recorded the other hit for the Pride. Fitzgerald drew two walks against George Washington, and Villar was walked once.
The Pride resumes CAA competition with a three-game series against Monmouth in West Long Branch, New Jersey, beginning on Friday at 2 p.m.
NOTES:
-This was the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and George Washington in softball.

Julia Apsel combined for three strikeouts against the Revolutionaries.
