Hofstra Drops Saturday Clash Against UIC

Tampa, FL – The Hofstra softball team dropped its Saturday game at the Fonseca Memorial Tournament at USF to UIC, 5-1, from USF Softball Stadium in a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon.
 
Hofstra slips to 1-2 overall and UIC is now 1-9 on the year.
 
A scoreless game through four innings, the Flames loaded the bases with one out, and Larissa Ortiz capitalized on a 2-0 pitch with a single up the middle to two runs across home plate, breaking the deadlock and giving UIC the lead. The Flames plated a third run in the same inning on a sacrifice fly to center field to make it a 3-1 game. Aliya Catanzarita scored a on fielder's choice play to bring the Pride to within two, but UIC added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh on a double to right field.
 
Olivia Malinowski was credited with the RBI on Hofstra's lone run of the contest. Chelsea Manto recorded two hits and one stolen base, while Catanzarita, Mackenzie Fitzgerald, Becca Vaillancourt, and Kayla Wilson all tallied hits against the Flames. Annabella Pisapia got the start and went four innings, allowing just one hit and picking up a pair of strikeouts on 49 pitches. Marisa Ogden entered the game in relief and allowed three runs against the Pride. Haley Venturini pitched the remaining 2.2 innings and she allowed two hits against two strikeouts.
 
Hofstra's contest against Purdue originally scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday has been moved to Sunday at 11:30 a.m. from USF Softball Stadium to conclude the Pride's time at The Fonseca Memorial Tournament at USF.
 
NOTES:
-Manto is now eight stolen bases shy of surpassing Kristin Hallam (83, 2017-21) for the most stolen bases in program history.
-Hofstra's all-time record against UIC is now 5-3.
