Hofstra Suffers Road Defeat Against Columbia

New York, NY – The Hofstra women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 road defeat to Columbia in a dreary affair from Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium on Friday afternoon.
 
The loss puts Hofstra at 1-2 on the year, while Columbia opens its 2023 season with a victory.
 
The Lions scored the first goal nearly 13 minutes into the first half, with Maia Tabion finishing off a pass from Stephanie Jung for the game's opening goal. The hosts added a second at the 67:45 mark of the second half off a second-chance shot from close range by Kendall McBride on a Columbia corner kick, and they finished off the game with 8:30 to go in the contest on a hard shot from the top of the Hofstra box by Madi Pilla.
 
Mackenzie Sullivan made three stops against Columbia, and Margaret Peterson led the Pride with two shots.
 
Columbia's Paige Nurkin tallied three saves to pick up the clean sheet win.
 
Hofstra will take to the pitch again on Thursday with a 7 p.m. road contest against FDU.
 
NOTES
-Hofstra is now 10-6-2 all-time against Columbia.
-The Lions outshot Hofstra, 19-5.
-Both teams earned five corner kicks.
