Monmouth Gets Past Hofstra

West Long Branch, NJ - Hofstra won the doubles point but Monmouth went on to win all four completed singles flights to post a 4-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Pride Saturday evening. 

Jonathan Mahrt Guyou and Ostap Kovalenko defeated Dmitry Bezborodov and Niels Van Noord, 6-1, at the No. 1 doubles flight to open the match. Monmouth's Gabriel Busato and Victor Castro defeated Bo Cautaerts and Matthew Garcia, 6-1, at the No. 2 flight to set up a decisive third flight which was won by the Pride's Kaita Odani and Josh Reynolds, 7-5, over Monmouth's Arthur Dussaubat and Christof Zeiler. 

Zeiler would start Monmouth off in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Hideki Matsuoka at No. 5. Bezborodov followed with a straight set victory (7-5, 6-4) over Cautaerts at No. 2. Castro defeated Reynolds at No. 3 in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-4) before Van Noord clinched the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win over Kovalenko at No. 1.

Monmouth improved to  14-4 overall and 2-1 in the CAA with the win. Hofstra is 6-8 overall and 0-2 in CAA play.

Hofstra returns to action Sunday at Fairleigh Dickinson with a 1:30 p.m. start time.
