Williamsburg, VA – Top-seeded UNCW won the first four completed singles matches to post a 4-0 win over No. 9 Hofstra in the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Tennis Championship Quarterfinals early Friday at William & Mary's McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
Playing indoors due to inclement weather in the Williamsburg area, the defending champion Seahawks raised their record to 15-7 overall. The Pride ended their season with a 7-12 record.
The two teams played singles first and the Seahawks got on the board as Alex de Gabriele got past Hofstra's
Hideki Matsuoka, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6 singles. Trey Mallory's 6-4, 6-2, decision over
Vincent Turina upped the score to 2-0. After Harold Huens followed with a 6-3, 6-1, win over
Bo Cautaerts at No. 2 singles for a 3-0 advantage, Reece Falck clinched the match with a three-set win over
Ostap Kovalenko, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, at the No. 1 flight.
With the win, the Seahawks advance to the CAA Semifinals for the 14th consecutive season.
