Hofstra Set to Host Delaware in Final Home CAA Series

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra softball team is back at Bill Edwards Stadium for the final home Colonial Athletic Association series of the 2023 regular season this coming weekend, where the Pride will host the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens. The series will kick off with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, before concluding the series on Sunday at noon. Sunday's contest will also serve as Hofstra's Senior Day, where the Pride will honor six members of the team – Kasey Collins, Meghan Giordano, Angelina Ioppolo, Amanda Maffucci, Madison McKevitt, and Nikki Mullin – playing in their final season as members of the Hofstra softball program.

Hofstra moved into second place in the CAA standings after taking two wins in three games against this past Friday and Saturday, putting the Pride at 20-23 overall and 12-6 in the conference and qualifying the team for its third consecutive CAA Softball Championship. Chelsea Manto excelled in the series against the Phoenix, batting .500 (6-12) with six runs scored and three stolen bases for the Pride, while Angelina Ioppolo and Meghan Giordano each drove in four RBIs.
 
Delaware enters this weekend's series atop the CAA standings with a 14-4 conference record and a 25-17 overall mark after winning two of three games against Towson this past weekend. Delaware sports the second-ranked pitching rotation in the CAA, headlined by Emily Winburn with a 16-7 record and an ERA of 2.26 and Taylor Wroten with a 5-3 record and a 2.21 ERA. Julz Garber leads the team with a .373 batting average, while Kiara Mills is posting a team-best 22 runs batted in, and Hanna Garber tops the roster with 51 hits.
 
Hofstra leads Delaware in the all-time series with a 74-27 record. Hofstra was 1-2 against Delaware in 2022, with the Pride opening its series with the Fightin' Blue Hens with a 6-5 win before falling 8-5 and 8-6 in Newark, Delaware.
