3/5/2023 10:11:00 PM

Philadelphia, PA - Trey Rogers placed fifth at 197 pounds and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, while Jacob Ferreira, Justin Hoyle, and Ross McFarland also placed as the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships wrapped up at The Palestra Sunday night. As a team, Hofstra placed 12th with 34 points.

Rogers, the fifth seed, earned his second career trip to the NCAA Championships after defeating Jack Wehmeyer of Columbia in the fifth-place match by a score of 6-3. Rogers earned a stall point and an escape in the second period and then had two takedowns in the third to take the win. This was the second fifth-place finish for Rogers, matching his 2021 showing.

Ferreira, the fourth seed at 184 pounds, placed sixth after dropping a tough 3-2 decision to Princeton's Nate Dugan. The match was tied at two going into the third with Dugan choosing bottom. He got an escape and spent the rest of the period on the defensive as Ferreira was unable to score a go ahead takedown.

Hoyle, the ninth seed at 141 pounds, won the seventh-place match over Army West Point's Julian Sanchez, 6-5 to earn his second consecutive placing finish at the EIWA's. Hoyle was eighth last season. He used a third period takedown against Sanchez with 41 seconds remaining to snap a 4-4 tie.

McFarland earned his first podium finish, placing seventh at 174 pounds. The No. 10 seed, McFarland defeated Lehigh's Jake Logan, 3-2. A third period escape was the difference in the match.

Rogers will make the trip to Tulsa for Nationals from March 16-18.
