Hempstead, NY – Hofstra pitchers
Haley Venturini and
Annabella Pisapia combined to throw seven scoreless innings and allowed just five hits as the Pride earned a 3-0 win over Monmouth on Sunday afternoon from Bill Edwards Stadium, clinching the series against the Hawks. Hofstra improves to 11-16 overall and 5-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association, and Monmouth drops to 4-18 on the year and 4-5 against the conference.
After
Kasey Collins led off the bottom of the first inning with a single,
Meghan Giordano blasted a 2-0 pitch over the center field wall for a two-run home run – her seventh home run of the season – to put the Pride ahead 2-0 early against the Hawks. As the excellent Hofstra pitching kept Monmouth off the scoreboard, the Pride added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single to left field by
Alanna Morse, scoring
Gianna Iaquinto from third to make it 3-0 for the home side.
Venturini pitched four shutout innings in the circle and allowed just two hits and four walks while striking out five Monmouth batters to pick up her fourth win of the season. Pisapia picked up right where Venturini left off, going three innings and striking out two against three hits in a walk in her first save of 2023.
Collins led Hofstra with two hits on Sunday and a run scored, while Giordano's two-run home run helped her lead the team with two runs batted in.
The Pride hosts Army West Point on Wednesday, March 29, at 4 p.m. in non-conference play. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
