Ferreira And Rogers Wrap Up NCAA Championships Competition

Tulsa, OK - Jacob Ferreira and Trey Rogers each lost their first round consolation matches Thursday night to wrap up their competition at the 2023 NCAA Championships at the BOK Center. As a team, Hofstra is tied for 61st-place.

Ferreira, the No. 28 seed at 184 pounds, lost a 6-4 decision to No. 21 Giuseppe Hoose of Buffalo. The two wrestlers entered the third period tied at 2. Hoose started the third on bottom and picked up an escape point before Ferreira scored a takedown to take a 4-3 lead. However, Hoose was able to get a reversal and ride out Ferreira for the remainder of the period to get the win. The matchup was the third of the season between the two grapplers with Hoose winning all three meetings. 

Rogers, seeded 29th at 197 pounds, took on No. 20 Evan Bockman of Utah Valley State and came up on the wrong end of a 13-6 decision. Bockman had a bif first period with two takedowns and a four-point near fall to open up an 8-2 lead after the opening three minutes. Trailing 11-3 after two periods, Rogers earned an escape and a takedown in the third period but Bockman had an escape and the riding time point to advance. 

Ferreira ended his 2023 campaign with a 22-13 record, while Rogers finished with a 22-7 mark.
