Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra softball team drove in four runs against visiting Boston College, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles drove in two runs in the top of the sixth to take the third game of the three-game series, 5-4, from the Pride.
Hofstra slips to 5-13 following today's loss, and Boston College improves to 15-7.
The Pride took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a
Becca Vaillancourt two-RBI double.
Kasey Collins reached base on an error by the third baseman, and advanced to second on with a stolen base. After
Meghan Giordano reached base on a walk,
Becca Vaillancourt sent a 2-1 pitch to right field for a double, bringing home Wilson and Giordano for the lead.
Boston College plated a run in the top of the second inning with an RBI double, and the Eagles took the lead in the top of the third on a fielder's choice for the tying run before the go-ahead run crossed home plate on a walk, making the score 3-2. Vaillancourt led off the bottom of the fourth with a single, and she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Madison McKevitt before advancing to third on an infield groundout by
Kayla Wilson.
Alanna Morse singled Vaillancourt home to make it a 3-3 game.
Giordano smoked her sixth home run of the season to left field on a full count to put the Pride on top, 4-3, in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Eagles would take the lead in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded after two walks and a single, a pair of runners crossed the plate on an RBI single followed by a throwing error, putting the Eagles ahead by one run. The Pride had an opportunity to tie or take the lead in the bottom half of the seventh inning, with Collins on base via single, but pinch hitter
Brianna Morse went down swinging.
Vaillancourt went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored, while Giordano scored two runs.
Nikki Mullin got the start in the circle for Hofstra and pitched 4.1 innings with three strikeouts against five hits, three runs allowed, and three walks.
Annabella Pisapia pitched 1.1 innings and picked up the los with two runs allowed.
Haley Venturini also saw action today, striking out two while allowing three hits in 12 innings of work.
Hofstra opens Colonial Athletic Association play with a three-game series on the road against Stony Brook on March 18-19. The Pride will face Stony Brook in a 1 p.m./3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 18, before facing the Seawolves on March 19 at 1 p.m.

-Vaillancourt recorded the first multi-RBI game of her Hofstra career.
