Wappingers Falls, NY - Hofstra swept doubles and won four singles flights in a 5-2 victory over Marist Saturday night at Cross Court Indoor Tennis. The win was Hofstra's first of the season.
The No. 1 doubles team of
Jimena Garbino and
Kaitlyn Ferguson picked up a 6-2 win over Jane Bockman and Ellen Zureick.
Ananyaa Bhargava and
Deniz Soyer won by an identical score at No. 2 over Deana Giambo and Cloe Clements.
Abigail Higgins and
April Sanchez completed the sweep with a 7-5 win at No. 3 over
Isabella Tonuzi and Andriana Zaphiris.
In singles, Garbino had a 6-3, 6-3 win over Giambo at No. 1, Soyer bested Bockman at No. 2 in three sets (1-6, 6-4, 6-3), Sanchez downed Tonuzi at No. 5, 6-3, 7-5, and Bhargava won at No. 6 after Zaphiris was forced to retire. The Hofstra sophomore led 6-2, 4-1 in the match,
Hofstra will look to pick up win number two next Sunday, Feb. 26, at Columbia.
