Hofstra Falls To St. John's

Oceanside, NY - Ostap Kovalenko and Jonathan Mahrt Guyou won at first doubles, but St. John's took the doubles point and then won all five completed singles matches for a 6-0 win over the Pride Wednesday at Point Set Indoor.

Hofstra saw a three-match winning streak come to an end with the loss and moved to 4-3 on the season. The Red Storm upped their record to 8-1 with the win.

Kovalenko and Mahrt Guyou posted a 6-3 victory over Alex Verdasco and Sergio Molina for the Pride's only win on the day. The Pride's tandem of Matthew Garcia and Vincent Turina went to a tiebreak in their No. 2 doubles match against Giuseppe De Camelis and Anton Stendal but fell 7-6 (2).

In singles, the Red Storm won four of the five matches in straight sets. Turina, playing at No. 3, won the first set, 6-3, over Nishant Dabas before falling 6-2 in the second set and 10-1 in the tiebreaker.

Hofstra returns to action Friday at Lehigh with a 4:30 p.m. start time.
