Hofstra Hosts George Mason And Drexel This Weekend

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University wrestling team returns home for two matches this weekend, taking on George Mason Friday at 6 p.m. and Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association rival Drexel Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place in the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. 

The matches will be streamed live on the Hofstra Pride YouTube channel with audio commentary provided by the student-run WRHU-FM (88.7). Live results can also be accessed at Track Wrestling. Links for each can be found above or on the wrestling schedule page on GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra enters Friday's match against George Mason with a record of 2-4 overall. The Pride is 1-4 in the EIWA. The Pride is on a two-match losing streak following road losses at Binghamton and Navy. Hofstra has a pair of ranked-wrestlers (InterMat) in No. 23 Jacob Ferreira (16-7) at 184 pounds and No. 30 Trey Rogers (12-3) at 197 pounds. Ferreira moved up a spot in the poll this week, while Rogers' spot did not change. 

George Mason is 10-4 on the season. The Patriots split a pair of matches last weekend, defeating Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (23-16) and losing to Cleveland State in a tiebreaker (19-18). The Patriots boast a trio of wrestlers with 20 wins in Markel Baker (22-9) at 125 pounds, Nate Higley (20-13) at 149 pounds, and Logan Messer (22-4) at 174 pounds. 

Drexel, which wrestles George Mason and LIU on Saturday, is currently 6-4 overall and 4-0 in the EIWA. The Dragons lineup features four ranked wrestlers with Luke Nichter 24th at 149 pounds, Evan Barczak 22nd at 165 pounds, Michael O'Malley fifth at 174 pounds, and Brian Bonino 27th at 184 pounds.   

Hofstra is 13-1 all-time versus George Mason and 19-19 all-time against Drexel.
