Hofstra Drops Tight Match At Bucknell

Lewisburg, PA - Hofstra and Bucknell split 10 matches but the Bison won the decisive final match at 285 pounds to snatch an 18-17 victory over the Pride in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association match at Davis Gym.

Hofstra slipped to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the EIWA with the loss. Bucknell improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in league action with the win. 

Jacob Moon gave the Pride a strong start with a 12-1 major decision in the opening bout at 125 pounds over Grayson McLellan. The Bison would win the next three matches including a win by fall at 141 pounds by Dylan Chappell to take a 12-4 lead. The Pride picked up a win from Joe McGinty at 157 pounds, 5-3, over Riley Bower but Bucknell went back up by eight, 15-7, with a win at 165 pounds by Chase Barlow. 

Hofstra then went on a three-match winning streak with decisions by Ross McFarland at 174 pounds (7-4) and 24th-ranked Jacob Ferreira (6-2) at 184 pounds. Trey Rogers, ranked 29th at 197 pounds, gave Hpfstra the lead, 17-15, with a 10-2 major decision over Nolan Springer. However, Bucknell's Dorian Crosby eked out a 2-1 decision at 285 pounds over 30th-ranked Zachary Knighton-Ward to give the Bison the victory. 

Hofstra returns to action Sunday, January 15, at 1 p.m. at Buffalo.

-Hofstra is 9-17 all-time versus Bucknell. 
-McFarland, Ferreira, and Rogers have each won two consecutive matches.
