Lancaster, PA - Ericson Velasquez picked up three wins on the day and unattached Joe Sparacio had four wins as Hofstar competed at the Franklin & Marshall Lehman Open Friday at the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center. There was no team scoring at the event, which was the Pride's final regular season tournament. 

Velasquez, competing at 184 pounds, won all three of his bouts by fall. He started his day with a round of 64 win over Sacred Heart's Chris DeLena in 1:55. After dropping his round of 16 match to Josh Stillings of Drexel by tech fall, Velasquez rallied for back-to-back wins by fall over Gavin Claro of LIU (4:45) and Cordel Duhart of Presbyterian (6:48). In his match against Duhart, Velasquez trailed 11-6 before putting his opponent on his back in the waning seconds of the match. Velasquez saw his night come to an end in the consolation round of 8 #1 with a tech fall loss to fourth seeded Dylan Fishback of North Carolina State. 

Competing unattached at 133 pounds, Sparacio dropped his first match in the round of 32 by fall to move into the consolation bracket. In his first consolation match, in the round of 32, Sparaco scored a 6-2 win over Hofstra teammate and fellow unattached entrant Alex Turley. The Pride freshman followed that with a 6-1 upset of eighth seeded Jace Palmer of North Carolina in the first round of 16. In the second round of 16, Sparacio was awarded a medical forfeit win over 30th-ranked and third-seeded Joey Melendez of North Carolina. Sparacio picked up another win over a seeded opponent in the first round of eight, defeating the sixth seeded Pat Phillips of Franklin & Marshall. However, his run came to an end in the second consolation round of eight with a 3-1 loss to fifth seeded Jack Maida of American. 

Two other Hofstra wrestlers - Eric Shindel and Nikolas Miller - picked up a pair of wins at the open. Shindel went 2-2 at 157 pounds with consolation round wins over Patrick Tocci of Millersville (fall, 4:35) and a 4-0 decision over Anthony Micci of Franklin & Marshall. Miller opened with a 10-2 major decision in the round of 32 over Army West Point's Thomas Godbee. He dropped his round of 16 match to third seeded John Crawford of F&M before scoring a 4-1 win over Kent State's Miles Ashbough in the second round of 16. Miller saw his night end with a tough 5-4 loss to Azeem Bell of Rider, who used a takedown with three seconds to go to score the victory.  Chase Casey, competing unattached at 141 pounds was 1-2 on the day.
