Hofstra Picks Up EIWA Win Over Franklin & Marshall

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra won seven of 10 weight classes in a 21-12 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association victory over Franklin & Marshall Saturday night at the David. S. Mack Physical Education Center.

Hofstra, which won for the second consecutive match, improved to 2-2 on the season and 1-2 in EIWA action. The Diplomats, who won at LIU earlier Saturday, is 6-5 overall and 1-3 in the EIWA.

Ross McFarland (174), 24th-ranked Jacob Ferreira (184), 31st-ranked Trey Rogers (197), and Zachary Knighton-Ward (285) picked up decision victories in the first four bouts to stake the Pride to a 12-0 lead.

The Diplomats' Mason Leiphart won a tech fall at 125 pounds and Pat Phillips followed with a decision at 133 to put the visitors back in the match at 12-8. Justin Hoyle turned the tide for the Pride with a decision over Aidan O'Shea at 141 pounds to make the score 15-8. Franklin & Marshall picked up a bonus point victory at 149 to pull within three, 15-12. However, Joe McGinty secured a 4-2 win over Nick Alvarez at 157 and Eric Shindel closed out the win with a 5-4 decision over RJ Moore.

Hofstra returns to action Thursday night at Binghamton in another EIWA match. Start time is 6 p.m.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 11-5 all-time versus Franklin & Marshall and has won seven straight matches.
-McGinty and Rogers have won three consecutive matches.
-Rogers and Shindel each collected their 10th victory of the season.
