Chattanooga, TN - Fifth seeded and 24th ranked Jacob Ferreira defeated Iowa State's Joel Devine by an 8-3 decision in the fifth place match at 184 pounds as The Southern Scuffle, presented by Compound Sportswear, concluded Monday night.  

Starting the day in the championship semifinals, Ferreira dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to the top seed and 12th ranked Travis Wittlake of Oklahoma State. Wittlake scored a third period takedown to snap a 1-1 tie and after a Ferreira escape, the Hofstra senior was unable to get a takedown of his own in the final seconds. 

The loss sent Ferreira to the consolation semifinals, where he lost an 8-6 decision to Virginia Tech's Sam Fisher to get sent to the fifth-place match. Ferreira had defeated Fisher Sunday in the round of 16. 

In consolation action at 141 pounds, the Pride's Justin Hoyle lost by fall to 28th ranked Carter Young of Oklahoma State. At 285 pounds, Little Rock's Josiah Hill defeated No. 28 Zachary Knighton-Ward, 3-1. 

As a team, Hofstra placed 20th in the 21-team field with 17.5 points. 

Hofstra returns to action Friday (January 6) at the Franklin & Marshall Lehman Open.
