Hofstra Tripped Up By Columbia In Non-Conference Finale

Hempstead, NY - Columbia scored goals late in the first half and early in the second and held off Hofstra, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The Pride, playing their final non-conference game of the season, avoided the shutout with 27 seconds to play on defender Krista Agostinello's first career goal.

Hofstra, which has alternated wins and losses over the past six games, slips to 5-3-1. Columbia improved to 4-2-1 with the win.

Annie Diaz Silveira put the Lions on the board at 40:11 with Charlyse Berry and Sam Cohn notching the assists. Columbia would go up 2-0 just 3:25 into the second half as Cohn scored from Ania Prussak.

There were not a lot of good scoring chances for either team as the Pride had three shots on goal and the Lions put four on target. Skylar Kuzmich had two saves for the Pride, while Paige Nurkin made two stops for Columbia.

Hofstra avoided being shutout in the final 30 seconds when Agostinello volleyed Wiktoria Fronc's chip pass past Nurkin.

Hofstra returns to action Thursday night at home against new CAA foe Hampton. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
