Eugene, OR – Running against some of the best under-20 runners in the country, Hofstra freshman
Zach Van Houten placed in the top 10 of the men's 5000m at the 2022 USATF U20 Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Hayward Stadium in Eugene, Oregon.
A first-year distance runner from East Meadow, New York, Van Houten crossed the finish line of the 5000m race with a time of 14:23.97, placing him sixth among the field of 16 under-20 competitors. He finished 4.43 seconds ahead of Virginia's Justin Wachtel in seventh, and just 1.07 seconds behind fifth-place finisher Ricardo Vargas of Cal Poly Pomona.
Van Houten earned All-CAA honors in the outdoor track season for finishing second in the 10,000m at the 2022 CAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and he was named the CAA Male Rookie of the Year during the cross country season after placing fifth at the 2022 CAA Cross Country Championships.
