ATH: Rogers, Whelan Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District ® I At-Large First Team

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University student-athletes Trey Rogers (wrestling) and Katie Whelan (women's lacrosse) have been named to the 2021-22 Academic All-District® I At-Large First Team, selected by CoSIDA. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.

A junior from Hastings, Minnesota, Rogers holds a 3.93 cumulative grade point average with a double major in biochemistry and pre-medical studies. A CoSIDA Academic All-District® I At-Large honoree in 2020-21, Rogers went 16-7 as the Pride's starter at 197 pounds and represented Hofstra at the 2022 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships. In the classroom, Rogers was named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for the third year in a row, and he picked up his fourth consecutive EIWA Academic Achievement Award. In addition, he was named Mr. Pride and the winner of the Colonel E. David Woycik, J. Award for Leadership and Service at the 2021-22 HOFSPY Awards. Rogers also served as the Pride Cup Coordinator and was a team representative on the Hofstra Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and was a member of The Colonel E. David Woycik, Jr. (Ret) Esq. Pride Leadership Academy.

A graduate student from Long Beach, New York, Whelan posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.95 with a major in physical education & health after completing her undergraduate degree in the same major with a 3.51 cumulative GPA. A team captain for the Hofstra women's lacrosse team in 2022, Whelan finished the season with 55 points on 40 goals and 15 assists, while adding 33 draw controls, putting her first on the team in goals and points, and second in assists and draw controls, and she was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team for the third time in her collegiate career. She has been named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll five times in her Hofstra career, and is a three-time selection to the Hofstra Athletic Director Scholars Academic Honor Roll.
