Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra softball team fell to Stony Brook in mid-week non-conference action at University Field on Wednesday afternoon, 4-2.
Meghan Giordano led Hofstra the plate as she went 2-for-3 with an RBI and double in the seventh.
Olivia Malinowski also drove in one run on a base hit while
Chelsea Manto recorded a triple in the fifth.
Aliya Catanzarita also had a hit for the Pride.
Stony Brook scored three runs in the top of the first, including two on a double by Alyssa Costello. In the fourth, Giordano led off with a base hit up the middle before Catanzarita followed up with a single to center field. Two batters later, Malinowski drove an opposite-field single to score Giordano, putting Hofstra on the board.
Manto legged out a one-out triple to lead off the top of the fifth before Collins moved her over and Giordano drove her in with a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing Hofstra within one, 3-2. The Seawolves added a fourth run in the sixth, stretching the Stony Brook lead back to out to two.
Giordano placed a two-out double down the right field line after a relentless at-bat in the seventh, but Stony Brook recorded a strikeout to end the game.
Hofstra fell to 16-24 overall while Stony Brook improved to 28-13.
The Pride is back in action for the final home Colonial Athletic Association series of the season this weekend. The weekend will kick off with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30 at 12 p.m. and will close on Sunday, May 1 (Senior Day) with first pitch also at 12 p.m.
