Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra softball team battled Stony Brook in the Long Island Rivalry on Tuesday afternoon, but ultimately fell to the Seawolves, 7-0 at Bill Edwards Stadium.
Hofstra scattered four hits on the afternoon including base knocks by
Chelsea Manto,
Meghan Giordano,
Madison McKevitt and
Amanda Maffucci.
Stony Brook scored three runs in the second inning got on the scoreboard first with an RBI single by Alyssa Costello. The Seawolves added two more runs on a single and error, bringing the score to 3-0. Stony Brook plated a fourth run in the fourth, and added a three-run home run in the fifth to finalize the score at 7-0.
Hofstra put two runners on base in the sixth and two runs in the seventh, but the Pride was unable to push anything across.
Julia Apsel suffered the loss inside the circle after earning the start and pitching 2.1 innings.
Annabella Pisapia pitched 1.2 innings in relief before
Nikki Mullin tossed the final three innings and struck out three batters.
Hofstra is back in action on Thursday afternoon for a single-game at Howard. First pitch at the Nationals Youth Academy is set for 2 p.m.
