Box Score Oceanside, NY - Hofstra won three singles flights and the doubles point as the Pride picked up their first victory of the season, a 4-2 decision over visiting Marist Sunday evening at Point Set Indoor. Hofstra, which won the final three completed singles flights to rally from a one-point deficit, moved to 1-3 on the season with the win. The win was also Head Coach
Richard Sipala's first with the women's program.
The doubles team of
Kayla Solagnier and
Ananyaa Bhargava opened the match with a 6-2 win over Lea Lambert and Akanksha Sreenivas at No. 3 doubles.
April Sanchez and
Katherine Kachkarov followed with a 6-2 win at No. 2 over Ellen Zureick and Andriana Zaphiris to clinch the point.
Marist (0-4) picked up the first two singles victories, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Hofstra's
Deniz Soyer tied the score with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Zureick at No. 3. Sanchez put the Pride ahead to stay at No. 4 with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Lambert.
Kaitlyn Ferguson closed out the scoring with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 6 over Sreenivas.
The Pride returns to action March 11 at Delaware.
