WREST: Hofstra Takes Down Franklin & Marshall

Lancaster, PA - The Hofstra wrestling team concluded the regular season with wins in seven weight classes for a 22-11 victory over Franklin & Marshall from the Mayser Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania Sunday afternoon.

The Pride wraps up the regular season with a 4-11 overall record and a 3-5 mark in the EIWA. Meanwhile, Franklin & Marshall drops to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the EIWA with today's loss, snapping an eight-match winning streak for the Diplomats.

Charles Small started the match with a tight 4-2 decision over James Conway at 184 after an escape in the third period followed by the go-ahead takedown. Trey Rogers followed up Small's win with a dominating 15-4 major decision win at 197, and Zachary Knighton-Ward finished his match with a four-point third period to win 4-2 over Vincenzo Pelusi at 285 to pull ahead 10-0 early in the dual.

Jacob Moon upped Hofstra's lead in the dual to 13-0 after he knocked off Gio Diaz with an escape and takedown in the third period, and the freshman lightweight rode out the final 26 seconds on top for the 5-4 decision win at 125. The Diplomats climbed back into the match with wins by major decision at 133 and decision at 141, Michael Leandrou regained momentum for the Pride with a late takedown of Cristiaan Dailey deep into his match at 149 to win, 5-3.

Joe McGinty scored an even more dramatic win for the Pride at 157 against Chase McCollum with three takedowns in the final period to win 7-5. Stamm put the match out of reach for the Diplomats with a 7-1 decision over Noah Fox at 165 before Franklin & Marshall won by major decision at 174.

At the conclusion of the dual, two extra matches were held that did not count towards the final team score, but did count towards the individual records of the wrestlers. Rogers earned a 22-4 tech fall win over Harrison Shapiro at 197, and Mario Biancamano wrestled hard but was defeated by pin at 1:42 of his match at 141.

With the regular season now concluded, Hofstra will begin preparations for the 2022 EIWA Championships in Ithaca, New York. The two-day, three-session competition will be held from Newman Arena at Bartels Hall from March 5-6 and will be streamed exclusively on FloWrestling.

NOTES:
-Hofstra moves to 10-5 all-time against Franklin & Marshall, and runs its winning streak over the Diplomats to six.
-With his decision over Gio Diaz, Moon picked up his first win over an EIWA opponent this season.
-Knighton-Ward finishes the regular season with a perfect 7-0 record against EIWA competition.
-Knighton-Ward and Small are currently tied for the team-lead with 10 wins by decision each.
