Sparacio, Miller Place At Princeton Open

Princeton, NJ - Joe Sparacio placed second at 133 pounds and Nikolas Miller was fourth at 197 pounds as Hofstra opened the 2022-23 season Sunday at the Princeton Open. Overall Hofstra wrestlers posted an 8-20 mark at the open tournament. 

Sparacio won his opening match against Ryan Luna of Presbyterian with a 7-5 decision and then posted a 13-3 major decision over Nico Messina, wrestling unattached from Rutgers, in the quarterfinals. The Pride freshman then decisioned Rider's D'Amani Almodovar, 3-1, in the semifinals to advance to the championship match against the top seed Gable Strickland of Lock Haven. Strickland pulled away in the third period to post an 11-2 major decision.

Miller started his day with a 5-2 decision over Lock Haven's Kaleb Snodgrass in the quarterfinals. He then dropped a 14-4 major decision to the second seed, Luke Stout of Princeton in the semifinals. In the third place match, Miller suffered a tech fall loss to Aiden Conner of Princeton.

Hofstra will be back in action at the Journeyman Collegiate Classic in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Nov. 13.
