Hofstra's Postseason Run Ends In NCAA First Round

Washington, DC - Erika Harwood scored a second half goal as fifth-seeded and 18th-ranked Georgetown posted a 1-0 victory over Hofstra in the first round of the NCAA Championship at Shaw Field Saturday. 

Hofstra sees its season end with a record of 10-8-4. The Hoyas advance to the NCAA Second Round against either Pittsburgh or Buffalo with a record of 15-1-5. The Hoyas extended their unbeaten streak to 18 games. 

The teams played a scoreless first half that was not without chances for the Hoyas. The home team had eight shots with four on goal. Hofstra did not have a shot on goal, but did generate several chances that the Hoy defense thwarted. 

The teams played another 15 minutes of scoreless play in the second half before the Hoyas broke through. Natalie Means sent in a cross from the right side and found Harwood unmarked just outside the six-yard box and sent a shot into the left side of the goal. 

Hofstra had a chance with just over a minute left with a free kick from the left side of the box, but the service in was knocked away by the Georgetown defense to preserve the Hoya victory.

-Hofstra had one shot, taken by Cailey Welch.
-Hofstra is 0-2-1 all-time versus Georgetown
-Hofstra was making its 10th NCAA Championship appearance.
-Skylar Kuzmich finished with four saves, while Allie Augur did not face a shot on goal for the Hoyas.
-Georgetown had a 17-1 shot advantage.
