Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra wrestling team unofficially opened inside the David S. Mack Physical Education Center with the 2022 Hofstra Wrestle-Offs.

The Pride held 12 matches in a dual-style format, pitting members of the Hofstra Gold team against the Hofstra White team. Hofstra White earned a 27-19 win over Hofstra Gold.

Jacob Moon picked up a 3-0 decision win over Dylan Acevedo-Switzer at 125 pounds, followed by a 9-4 decision win by Joe Sparacio over Alex Turley. Chase Casey scored a 12-0 major decision win against Mario Biancamano at 141 pounds, and Michael Leandrou won by 8-1 decision against Eric Shindel at 157 pounds.

Ross McFarland won the 174 pound match with an 11-0 major decision victory over Matt Rogers, and newcomer Jacob Ferreira won by pin over Ericson Velasquez at 4:22 of the 184 pound match. At 197 pounds, Trey Rogers scored a convincing 16-6 major decision win over Nikolas Miller. In the 285 pound match, returning NCAA qualifier Zachary Knighton-Ward won by 22-7 major decision against Adrian Sans.

Chase Liardi won the other 133 pound match with a 5-0 decision win against Sparacio, and 2022 EIWA placewinner Justin Hoyle won by pin at 4:05 of the 141 pound bout over Casey. At 149 pounds, Grayson Harris won by 5-1 decision over Shindel, and Jurius Clark ended the afternoon with a 6-1 decision win over Leandrou at 165 pounds.

Hofstra officially opens its 2022-23 season at the Princeton Open on November 6. The Pride begins its dual match schedule at home on December 22 at 6 p.m. against American.
