Flushing Meadows, NY - Freshman Deniz Soyer posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ekaterine Jorjoliani of Long Island University in the first round of the Buffalo Bracket, while Mandisa Walle dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Bianca Compuesto of Long Island University in the Rochester Bracket at the Columbia Invitational Friday.

Soyer advances to face Iris Gallo of Penn in the semifinals of her bracket on Saturday. Walle will take on Caitie Sullivan of Columbia in the consolation semifinals.

Soyer and Walle also competed in doubles, falling to Columbia's Sophia Strugnell and Carolyn Brodsky, 6-1, in the opening round. The pair will face Lalita Devarakonda and Amaya Lopez of St. John's in the consolation round on Saturday.
