Hempstead, NY – The No. 25 Hofstra women's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals while goalkeeper
Skylar Kuzmich recorded four first-half saves, as the Pride shut out Bucknell on Friday afternoon by a score of 2-0 at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
Hofstra earned its third-straight victory, improving to 6-1 on the season, while Bucknell dropped to 2-4-1.
The match was fast-paced early on, as Bucknell had one of its best chances early in the match but Kuzmich came off her line and made a big save less than a minute into the match. Kuzmich made another massive save under four minutes later, this time a diving stop to deny the Bison.
Hofstra nearly claimed the early first half advantage, but a penalty kick shot by
Lucy Shepherd sailed high, keeping the match scoreless under the 15-minute mark. Each team had its chances, however, as the Pride and Bison recorded four saves each in the first frame.
Hofstra broke through early in the second half when
Miri Taylor controlled a pass and fed a perfect ball down the right side to
Lucy Shepherd who sent in a beautiful cross and found
Amanda Ebbesson for the one-time volley to put Hofstra up, 1-0.
After 25 minutes of play, Hofstra drew up a near-identical play, but this time
Emily Rose won the ball near midfield, delivered a pass to Shepherd up the right wing, and again crossed it in from the outside of the box to this time find Taylor who sliced in a shot inside the left post.
The Pride posted a 16-4 advantage in shots, including a 7-0 edge in the second half.
Hofstra looks forward to a quick day of rest tomorrow before turning around to host Yale on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium is set for 12 p.m.
