WSOC: Brown Nets Two as Hofstra Blanks UAlbany Sunday

ALBANY, N.Y. – A two-goal performance by freshman Georgia Brown propelled the Hofstra University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory at the University at Albany on Sunday, August 22.

It was another strong performance by the Pride to begin the 2021 season as Hofstra held an 18-8 advantage in total shots attempted and an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. Brown led the Blue and Gold with six shots on the day, tallying her first two career goals during the win. Miri Taylor notched the lone assist of the day, while Skylar Kuzmich posted two saves to record the shutout.

During the 29th minute, the Pride earned a corner kick and Taylor curled a ball in from the left corner flag which Brown met with a perfect header past UAlbany goalkeeper, Sophia Chen. The 1-0 advantage continued through halftime before the Pride began the second half on the front foot once again.

It was another set piece leading to a goal for the Pride in the 56th minute, when Jordan Littleboy lifted a free kick into the penalty area which landed at Brown's feet. After a few blocked attempts, Brown knocked home her second goal of the game to give Hofstra a 2-0 advantage. The defensive unit held down the advantage the rest of the way, highlighted by Louise Hayden's clear off of goal line during the 69th minute to keep the Great Danes off the scoreboard.

The Pride return to the home turf on Friday, August 29 when they host Brown University at 1 p.m.
