Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University baseball team placed three student-athletes on the All-Colonial Athletic Association teams it was announced today by the conference office. The teams were selected in a vote of the league's nine head coaches.
First baseman
Rob Weissheier and shortstop
Austin Gauthier collected All-CAA First Team accolades, while pitcher
Jimmy Joyce was named to the All-CAA Second Team. Weissheier and Gauthier each earned their first postseason All-CAA honor while Joyce is now a two-time All-CAA honoree after being selected to the second team as a utility player in 2019.
Weissheier, a graduate student, started all 39 games for the Pride in 2021, batting .295 with 12 doubles, 8 home runs, 34 RBIs and 29 runs scored. The Valley Stream, New York, native led Hofstra in home runs and RBIs and was second in doubles. He ranks sixth in the CAA in home runs, tied for sixth in doubles, and seventh in RBIs. One of the top fielding first basemen in the league, Weissheier compiled a .997 fielding percentage this past season.
Gauthier, a native of Lorton, Virginia, batted .338 in 38 games this past season with 14 doubles, seven home runs, 22 RBIs and 36 runs scored. The senior led the Pride in doubles and runs scored and was second in home runs. He also walked a team and CAA-leading 42 times and ranks second in the CAA in on-base percentage at .503. Gauthier's .617 slugging percentage is fourth in the CAA, and he is tied for the league lead in doubles, and tied for seventh in home runs.
Joyce, a senior, was dominant on the mound in 2021 and compiled a 3-4 record in 11 starts. The right-hander from Wantagh, New York, posted a 3.70 ERA and struck out 89 batters in 73 innings of work. He added one complete game and had two combined shutouts on the season. He ranks second in the CAA in strikeouts, eighth in ERA and 10th in opponent batting average (.245).
