Hempstead, NY - Hofstra men's outdoor track sensation Alex Masai continues his stellar 2021 season as he has qualified to run in the 10,000m and the 5000m at the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships - East Preliminary on May 26-29, the NCAA announced Thursday.

The NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships - East Preliminary will be hosted by the University of North Florida from May 26-29 at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium. Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas will host the West Preliminary. The qualifiers from these two regions will head to Eugene, Oregon for the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held June 9-12.

The Eldoret, Kenya native broke the school record in the 10,000m with a time of 28:27.35 in a second-place showing at the Stanford Invitational in April. Masai's time in California broke his own school-record time of 29:39.36 set at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic in 2019. He currently holds the top time in the Colonial Athletic Association, and he sits with the fifth-fastest time in the region.

In addition to his running in the 10,000m, Masai is scheduled to run in the 5000m in Jacksonville. The graduate student secured qualification when he finished with a time of 13:51.48 in a championship-winning performance at the 2021 CAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in April. His time ranks Masai tops in the conference and 30th among runners in the East Region.

Masai has won two USTFCCCA All-America honors in his cross country/track career at Hofstra. He was named an All-American during the COVID-shortened 2020 indoor track season, and he scored All-America status at the 2020 NCAA Cross Country Championships this past March.
