Teaneck, NJ – Hofstra picked up five singles wins and took the doubles point as well in a 6-1 victory at Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday afternoon. The victory was Hofstra's second in a row and improved the Pride's record to 4-2 on the season.
Yusuke Nishitani and
Giacomo Pezzoli got the Pride started with a win at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, over FDU's Maciej Autuch and Moric Budinszky. The Knights won at No. 2 before
Alvaro Arce Lopez-Sanchez and
Shawn Jackson picked up a 7-6 (3) victory at the top flight over Teodors Pukse and Andris Gudins to give the Pride the point.
The teams traded singles wins with Lopez-Sanchez defeating Gudins (6-0, 6-1) at No 2 and Youssef Sader picking up a 7-5, 6-1 win over Nishitani at No. 5. After that the Pride won the remaining four flights with Jackson defeating Pukse at No. 1 (6-4, 4-6, 6-4), Pezzoli downing Niclas Pietsch (5-7, 7-5, 6-3) at No. 4;
Jonathan Mahrt Guyou winning by retirement over Autuch at No. 3, and
Julien Wolfe besting Budinszky at No. 6 (7-5, 6-3).
FDU, which will be the top seed in the Northeast Conference Championship this weekend, saw its four-match win streak halted with the loss and evened its record at 4-4.
Hofstra returns to action Thursday against St. Francis Brooklyn at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. Match time is set for 9 a.m.
