SB: Hofstra Swept at Drexel

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Hofstra softball team battled for two games but ultimately dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Drexel on Saturday afternoon.

Graduate student Kristin Hallam and junior Meghan Giordano each had two hits on the day, while Giordano led Hofstra with two RBI. Hallam drove in one run, while junior Jaycee Ruberti and senior Devyn Losco both recorded one RBI.

Game 1: Drexel 6, Hofstra 0

Hofstra was not able to get the bats going in game one, as junior Madison McKevitt and Hallam were the only Pride players to reach base with a hit by pitch and walk, respectively. Drexel homered in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead before the Dragons scored four more times to take game two of the series, 6-0.

Sophomore Nikki Mullin dropped to 3-2 on the season following her six innings of work.

Game 2:  Drexel 6, Hofstra 5 (8 inn.)

After the Dragons plated a run on a suicide squeeze in the second inning, Hofstra leveled the score when pinch runner Amanda Maffucci, who replaced Alex Musial on the base paths, scored on an infield single by Hallam. Giordano extended Hofstra's lead to two, 3-1 when she drove in Hallam and Kayla Wilson on a base hit to center field.

The game continued to go back and forth, as Drexel re-gained the lead, 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning, before Hofstra went back on top in the top of the fifth when Ruberti and Losco delivered back-to-back base hits.

Drexel plated the equalizer in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out sacrifice fly to force extra innings with the score at 5-5. Hofstra was retired in its first three at bats before Drexel capped off the series with an RBI single down the right field line to take the final win of the series, 6-5.

Madison Burns (5-7) took the loss inside the circle and surrendered just three earned runs while striking out three batters.
