WSOC: Porter Strikes Twice Again as Hofstra Dominates Fairleigh Dickinson

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Senior Lucy Porter found the back of the net twice for the second-consecutive game and the Hofstra University women's soccer team rolled past Fairleigh Dickinson University, 5-1 on Thursday, Feb. 25.
 
The two goals give Porter 35 for her storied career, moving her within one tally for fourth place all-time at Hofstra. Classmate Sabrina Bryan also found the back of the net for the second-straight game, moving her into a tie for eighth all-time with 27 career goals.  Senior Lucy Shepherd and junior Alia Mentzell rounded out the scoring for the Pride with one goal apiece.
 
Hofstra held a 21-3 advantage in shot attempts on the day, including a 12-1 edge in shots on goal. The Pride also recorded 13 corner kicks on the afternoon.
 
It took less than 11 minutes for Hofstra to take the lead, as Porter fired home a shot from the top of the 18 for the game's opening goal. Shepherd doubled the early advantage later in the half, floating in a free kick from 20 yards out to spark a three-goal outburst for the Blue and Gold. Porter put home her second goal of the half and Bryan finished off a corner kick for the third goal in a seven-minute stretch to close out the first half.
 
The Knights got on the board during the 71st minute, though Hofstra added another late strike as Mentzell scored her first goal of the season to give Hofstra the 5-1 decision.
 
Hofstra will return to the pitch on Wednesday, March 3 when it plays host to UAlbany at 3:00 p.m.

Notes: 
-Hofstra continues its unbeaten streak against FDU and i snow 8-0-1 against the Knights
-Porter now has 35 career goals which is fifth in Hofstra program history. She needs one more to tie Suzanne Newell. She also moves into fifth in program with 82 career points, surpassing both Jill Mulholland (78) and Jerilyn Marinan (80). She needs one more to tie with Christa Eidenweil for fourth. 
-Sabrina Bryan now has 28 career goals which is now tied for seventh in Hofstra program history with Salma Tarik. She also now has 75 career points which is seventh in program history and 19 career assists which also ties her for seventh.
