Hempstead, NY - Katherine Kachkarov advanced to the Flight B singles championship match after day one of the 2021 Hofstra Women's Tennis Invitational Saturday at the Hofstra Tennis Courts.

Kachkarov, who missed the spring 2021 season due to injury, made a successful return to the court and won her first round match over Ellen Zureick of Marist. Kachkarov rallied from a first set loss to win in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 10-4). In the semifinals against Selin Sepken of LIU, Kachkarove once again prevailed in three sets (6-2, 6-7 (6), 10-5) to advance to Sunday's flight championship against FDU's Aleksandra Vorozheikina.

In consolation play, Hofstra teammates Mandisa Walle and Deniz Soyer will face each other in the Flight A finals, while Brooklyn Samuels will meet Zureick in the Flight B finals.

In round robin singles play at Flight D, Hofstra freshman Mary Madigan picked up a pair of wins. The doubles teams of Soyer and Walle (Flight A) and Madigan and Kaitlyn Ferguson (Flight B) had wins in their round robin competition.

The final day of the Hofstra Invitational will get underway at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
