WSOC: Strong Second Half Lifts No. 11 Hofstra to Seventh Consecutive Victory

Harrisonburg, Va. – The James Madison Dukes led at the midway point, but the #11 Hofstra women's soccer team proved to be the stronger team in the end, scoring a pair of second half goals to come away with a 2-1 victory at Sentara Park on Sunday afternoon.

Hofstra (10-1, 2-0 CAA) earned its seventh consecutive win, while James Madison fell to 4-6-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

The first half of the initial stanza was a defensive battle for both teams, as Hofstra and James Madison combined for just five shots during the first 35 minutes of the half. James Madison drew first blood, however, as Aimy Diop found the back of the net to give the Dukes a 1-0 advantage near the end of the first half.

Trailing at the break for only the second time this season, Hofstra quickly regrouped to start the second half and pressed on the Dukes early in the frame, as Lucy Shepherd had a great chance in the 54th minute before finding the back of the net four minutes later, however it was called that Hofstra obstructed a defender and the goal was called off.

Hofstra made a statement two minutes later as Lucy Porter dribbled into the box and slide a pass to Ellen Halseth, who drilled home the equalizer in the 62nd minute. Hofstra piled on seven more opportunities in the next 12 minutes of action before Jordan Littleboy served a perfect ball into the box for Miri Taylor who placed a beautiful header just inside the left post to put the Pride up, 2-1 with under 10 minutes remaining. Neither team had any chances for the remaining 9:30 as Hofstra coasted to victory.

Hofstra out-shot the Dukes, 10-4 in the second half and ultimately finished with a 15-7 advantage in shots, including a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. Hofstra also racked up nine corner kicks to James Madison's one.

The Pride looks to keep rolling this Thursday, October 7 as the Delaware Blue Hens make the trip to Hempstead. Kick-off at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
