Philadelphia, PA –
Shawn Jackson won his first qualifying match, but dropped his second match to fall just short of qualifying for the main singles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional at the University of Pennsylvania Thursday afternoon.
Jackson defeated Aryaan Bhatia of Merrimack in straight sets (7-6, 7-5) in the round of 64 before dropping a 6-2, 6-1 decision in the round of 32 to Dartmouth's Alex Knox Jones to miss out on one of the 16 qualifying spots in the main draw.
In other action,
Kaita Odani fell to Rohan Gupta of Colgate (6-2, 6-4) in a round of 64 matchup, while
Matthew Garcia was defeated by Charlie James of St. John's (6-4, 6-2) in another round of 64 match.
The doubles team of Garcia and Odani also came up short in qualifying, dropping their round of 16 match to Jonathan Olive-Blanco/Keean Shah of Fairfield, 8-7 (3).
Bo Cautaerts, who was selected to play in the main draw, will compete Friday against Jack Selati of Colgate in the round of 128. The doubles team of Cautaerts and Jackson is also in the main draw and will face Jan Semerak and Bhatia of Merrimack Friday afternoon in the round of 64.
