HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Junior
Lucy Porter tied the Hofstra women's soccer program record with four goals to lead the Pride to a 6-1 victory against Fordham University on Sunday, Sept. 1.
The four goals match the program record set by Suzanne Newell against Central Connecticut State University on Oct. 5, 1996. The single-game effort is also the most goals scored by a Pride player since she scored three goals against Towson University on Sept. 20, 2018. Hofstra's six goals are also the most goals in a single-game since defeating the Tigers 6-0 on the same day.
Hofstra dominated the entirety of the match, outshooting Fordham by a 25-3 margin, including a 13-1 edge in shots on goal. Porter led the Pride with her four goals, while junior
Sabrina Bryan and sophomore
Megan Fisher added one goal apiece. Five Hofstra players tallied an assist on the day, including freshmen
Anja Suttner and
Cailey Welch who registered their first career points with their respective helpers.
It wasn't until the 21st minute when Porter buried a penalty kick that the Pride got on the scoreboard. From there, the Pride offense caught fire, scoring three more times before the end of the half. Porter tallied her second goal of the day during the 25th minute as she headed a cross from sophomore
Miri Taylor into the far corner and Bryan put home a third goal during the 30th minute off of a cross through the box by Welch.
Fordham scored their lone goal of the day during the 37th minute before the Pride responded less than four minutes later on another penalty kick goal by Porter, matching her career-high with three goals on the afternoon and capping off her second career hat trick.
During the second half, the Pride continued to dominate as Porter knocked home a pass from junior
Lucy Shepherd on the doorstep to match the single-game scoring record. Hofstra capped off its huge scoring performance with its final goal during the 71st minute as Fisher headed home a corner kick from Bryan.
Freshman
Skylar Kuzmich tallied 70 minutes in goal for the Pride to earn her second win of the season, while redshirt-senior
Sabrina Painter and sophomore
Grace Watson-Carr made their season debuts in goal.
Hofstra returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 5 when they travel to Piscataway, N.J. to take on Rutgers University. Kickoff for the non-conference match at Yurcak Field is slated for 7:00 p.m.
