2/27/2019 1:00:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. announced today that the University will add indoor and outdoor men's and women's track to its NCAA Division I sports sponsorship.

The addition of outdoor track will occur this spring with indoor track beginning in the winter of the 2019-20 academic year.

Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach Vince Giambanco will lead both track programs, in addition to continuing his role with the cross country teams. Giambanco just completed his fifth season leading the Pride and helped guide Alex Masai to the Pride's first-ever Colonial Athletic Association individual championship.

"We are excited about the addition of indoor and outdoor track to our University's athletic program," commented Cole Jr. "Coach Giambanco has done a tremendous job with our cross country programs over the last five years and we are confident he will do the same with our track teams. We are thankful for the support of President Stuart Rabinowitz and his belief and vision for Hofstra Athletics."

"I am thrilled to be part of such an exciting time in Hofstra Athletics and Hofstra University history," stated Giambanco. "The addition of indoor and outdoor track will allow us the opportunity to bring in more outstanding student-athletes that will assist in the University's mission. The addition of track will also strengthen our cross country programs and allow all to flourish."

The addition of men's and women's indoor and outdoor track will bring Hofstra's sports sponsorship up to 21 sports.
