Garrett Lambert recorded a win by fall and freshman
Dylan Ryder had a tech fall win but the Hofstra Pride dropped a 25-18 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association decision to the Lions of Columbia at the Dodge Fitness Center Saturday afternoon. It was the first of two road matches for the Pride on Saturday.
The Pride jumped out to a 15-3 lead after four matches behind three bonus-point victories. Starting the match at 285, Hofstra junior
Omar Haddad recorded an 11-2 major decision over Danny Conley for a 4-0 lead. It was Haddad's second major decision of the season. Ryder followed with a 17-0 technical fall over Manchio at 125. It was Ryder's third tech fall of the year and his 20
th victory of the season in 29 decisions.
After a Columbia win at 133, Lambert tacked on his second win by fall of the year with a pin of Danny Fongaro in 3:29 at 141 pounds. Lambert's sixth consecutive win boosted his record this year to 12-10 and the Hofstra lead to 15-3.
Columbia came roaring back with five consecutive wins including wins by fall at 149 and 165 and a major decision at 157 to build a 25-15 lead after Brian Bonino's win at 184. Hofstra senior
Nezar Haddad closed out the contest with a 6-4 win in sudden victory for the 25-18 result.
Hofstra will play the second match of their day-night EIWA doubleheader as the Pride travels to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to face the Diplomats of Franklin and Marshall at the Mayser Athletic Center at 7 p.m.
