WREST: Hofstra Has Winning Streak Stopped At Binghamton

Binghamton, NY – Sophomore Ricky Stamm recorded a win by fall to lead four victorious Pride wrestlers but the Bearcats tallied five bonus-point victories as Binghamton defeated Hofstra, 30-14 in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association match at West Gym Sunday afternoon. The Binghamton (7-3, 6-1) victory snapped the Pride's (6-11, 2-5) two-match winning streak.

Starting the match at 141 pounds, Binghamton jumped out to a 9-0 lead with a forfeit win at 141 and win by decision at 149. The Pride tied the match at 9-9 on a 4-0 win by senior Ryan Burkert over Chris Barker at 157, and a win by fall by Stamm at 165. Burkert won his third straight match while Stamm recorded his first pin of the season.

Binghamton then added a win by forfeit at 174 and a win by fall by ninth-ranked Lou Deprez at 184 pounds to take a 21-9 lead. Hofstra senior Nezar Haddad posted a 6-2 win by decision at 197 and junior Omar Haddad added a 3-2 decision at 285 to bring the Pride back to within six at 21-15.

The Bearcats closed out the match with a win by fall at 125 and a major decision at 133. Hofstra was assessed a one point team penalty after the 125-pound match and Binghamton was assessed a one-point team penalty after the final match for the 30-14 final.

Hofstra returns to action next Saturday, February 16 when the Pride head north for two more EIWA matches at Brown in Providence, Rhode Island at 1 p.m. and at Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts at 5 p.m.

Notes
- Hofstra freshman Dylan Ryder had his 11-match winning streak snapped at Binghamton. He leads the team with a 22-10 record. Ryder is ranked 28th in the NCAA Division I Coaches Panel rankings.
- Freshman Holden Heller has won seven of the last nine matches and is now 12-8 on the season
- Sophomore Ricky Stamm improved to 15-12 on the season with his victory
