Reece Heller led seven Pride wrestlers placing in the top three of their weight class pool at the 2019 Journeymen Collegiate Classic at Hudson Valley Community College Sunday afternoon.
Reece Heller, one of three Heller brothers on the Hofstra roster, posted a 4-0 record in the 149-pound C division to take home first-place honors. Newcomers
Ross McFarland (2-1) and
Justin Hoyle (1-2), who both wrestled unattached, placed second in the 165D and 133D pools, respectively.
Four Pride wrestlers placed third led by red-shirt junior
Ricky Stamm who home bronze honors with a 2-1 record in the 165-pound A pool. Classmate
Sage Heller also placed third in the 174A pool with a 2-2 mark as did red-shirt sophomore
Zachary Knighton-Ward with a 2-1 mark in the 285B pool, and red-shirt freshman
Reggie Poulin, who was 1-2 in the 285E pool.
Two Hofstra grapplers placed fourth as sophomore
Holden Heller was 1-1 at 157B and red-shirt sophomore
Charlie Kane was 1-2 in the 149D pool.
Three more Pride wrestlers placed third in pool action as red-shirt freshman
Matthew Templeton was 1-2 in the 125C pool, senior
Jacob Martin was 0-1 in the 133B pool and junior
Charles Small was 0-1 in the 184B pool. Newcomer
Steven Zgaljardic, who wrestled unattached, was 0-3 in the 149D pool.
Hofstra returns to action on Sunday, November 17 when the Pride compete in the Army West Point Black Knight Invitational at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
