HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Hofstra University Women's Soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to nine matches after defeating James Madison University, 3-1 in a rematch of the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Championship matchup on Thursday, Oct. 10.
Freshman
Anja Suttner, junior
Sabrina Bryan, and junior
Lucy Porter each found the back of the net for Hofstra who dominated the entire match offensively. The Pride held a 28-13 advantage in shot attempts and a 13-2 edge in shots on goal. The Dukes tallied 10 corner kicks to just one by the Pride, scoring their only goal of the contest off of a corner kick in the 33rd minute.
Suttner put the Pride on the front foot during the 13th minute when she dribbled through the defense and finished with her left foot for her second career goal. Just over five minutes later, Bryan beat a Duke defender to a 50-50 ball down the left flank and curled a shot past the charging keeper to put Hofstra ahead, 2-0 early in the contest.
The Dukes got on the board during the 33rd minute when Haley Crawford curled in a cross from the corner flag to cut the deficit in half. Porter responded during the 43rd minute with a highlight-reel strike from the top of the 18. After collecting a ball from junior
Jordan Littleboy, Porter turned to her right foot and volleyed a rocket inside the left post and in to put the Pride ahead, 3-1 at the half.
Early in the second half, Hofstra pushed its offensive attack onto James Madison once again, forcing the Dukes to fight off five separate scoring chances in a five-minute span during the early moments of the period. Freshman
Skylar Kuzmich made her only save of the night during the 76th minute to keep James Madison scoreless during the second half, giving the Pride the 3-1 victory.
Hofstra will wrap up its weekend slate of contests on Sunday, Oct. 13 when it travels to the University of Delaware. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
