Dylan Ryder recorded a win by fall and sophomore
Garrett Lambert added a major decision victory but the Broncs of Rider won the final three matches of the contest to post a 24-16 victory over Hofstra in the first match of a day-night doubleheader at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex Saturday afternoon. The loss snaps a three-match winning streak for the Pride of Hofstra.
The Pride will wrestle Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association-opponent Bucknell at 7 p.m. Saturday night at the Mack Sports Complex.
Hofstra jumped out to a 13-6 lead after four weight classes as Ryder posted his fifth win by fall on the year with a pin of Jonathan Tropea at the 4:00 mark of their 125-pound match. After a Rider pin at 133, Lambert recorded his third major decision on the season with a 9-0 blanking of Travis Layton at 141. Freshman
Holden Heller boosted the Pride lead to 13-6 with a 14-13 come-from-behind win over Evan Fidelibus at 149.
But Rider responded with a decision win at 157 and a forfeit win at 165 to take a 15-13 lead. Hofstra sophomore
Ricky Stamm defeated Rider's George Walton, 13-9 at 174 to give the Pride a 16-15 advantage. But the Broncs sealed the match with three straight decisions at 184, 197 and 285, including a 3-1 sudden victory decision at 197, to take the match.
