Lucy Porter scored a career-high three goals and added an assist, and
Jenn Buoncore recorded a goal and two assists as the Hofstra offense erupted in a 6-0 victory over Towson in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both schools. The six goals were the most scored by Hofstra in a CAA contest since joining the league in 2002.
The Pride won for the third consecutive game and improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in league action as it began defense of its 2017 CAA title. Towson dropped its second game in a row and slipped to 3-7-1 overall and 0-1 in the CAA.
The Pride scored four first half goals with Porter getting things started with her third goal of the season at the 14:57 mark as the sophomore converted a cross from
Monique Iannella for the 1-0 lead.
Lucy Shepherd made it a 2-0 advantage at 24:35 with Porter and Buoncore earning assists on the play.
Sabrina Bryan put away another pass from Iannella at 37:07 for a 3-0 lead before Porter notched her second with Iannella and
Miri Taylor getting assists for a 4-0 lead at the 40:14 mark.
Porter completed the hat trick at 69:49 with Buoncore and Bryan getting the assists. Buoncore would close out the scoring with a penalty kick goal following a handball in the box at 78:42.
Hofstra's previous high in CAA contests was five, which was set on several occasions. The six goals were also the most since the Pride scored nine against Indiana State on September 7, 2014.
Jenna Borresen and
Ashley Wilson split goalkeeping duties with Borresen making two first-half saves while Wilson was called upon for five stops in the second half. The tandem combined for their third consecutive clean sheet,
Hofstra had a commanding 25-11 advantage in shots and a 7-2 lead in corner kicks. The 25 shots were a season high.
Towson's Megan Collins stopped seven shots in goal for the Tigers.
Hofstra is back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Virginia, versus James Madison.

-Iannella's three assists tied the school record held by four other players.
-Porter's three goals were the most by a Pride player since Leah Galton scored three against Towson on November 2, 2014.
-Porter's seven points were the most since Sam Scolarici had seven against Indiana State on September 7, 2014.
-Taylor's assist was her first career point.
